David Feliciano, MD FACS appointed Professor of Surgery, Mercer University School of Medicine
David Feliciano, MD FACS, accepted an appointment as Professor Surgery at the Mercer University School of Medicine and Associate Director of Surgical Critical Care at the Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG). He will assist Dennis Ashley, MD FACS, Professor of Surgery and Director of Surgical Critical Care at MCCG, both clinically and in the development of educational programs in the ACGME-certified training program in Surgical Critical Care.
David Feliciano is one of the foremost leaders in general surgery and trauma care in the U.S. He will be stepping down as Surgeon-in-Chief at the Grady Memorial Hospital, and Professor of Surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine, a post he has held since 1991. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Trauma, The American Surgeon, and the American Journal of Surgery. He has been president of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Southeastern Surgical Congress, the Western Trauma Association, and the Georgia Surgical Society. He has held leadership positions with major national organizations in surgery, including director of the American Board of Surgery, and chair of the Advisory Council of the American College of Surgeons.
He has a long association with the Department of Surgery at Mercer and MCCG as Visiting Professor and in June speaker at the chief residents’ graduation dinner. “Dr Feliciano has been a longtime friend to our Department,” said Don Nakayama, MD FACS, chair of the Department of Surgery at Mercer and Program Director of the Residency at MCCG. “He has tremendous experience, expertise, and ability in patient care and education. Dr Ashley and I are looking forward to working with him to make MCCG a center for patient care, research, and education in trauma and critical care.”
Dr. Feliciano will be the moderator for the Second Annual Trauma Case Presentations at the Georgia Society of the American College of Surgeons Annual Meeting on August 27. This presentation in 2010 was an attendee favorite.

Dr. Britt is a general and acute care surgeon from Norfolk,VA, is the President of the American College of Surgeons(ACS). A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since1989, Dr. Britt is the Brickhouse Professor and Chairman, department of surgery, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, a position he has held since 1999. He is the first African American in the country to have an endowed chair in surgery. Dr. Britt is currently also director of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Ronney Abaza is Director of Robotic Urologic Surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center & James Cancer Hospital and Co-Director of Ohio State's Center for Advanced Robotic Surgery. His practice and academic interests are dedicated solely to robotic surgery for benign and malignant urologic conditions. Dr. Abaza has been performing robotic surgery since 2006 when he founded the Robotic & Minimally-Invasive Urologic Surgery Institute of Northwest Ohio, and he joined the Department of Urology at Ohio State University in 2008. Dr. Abaza’s research is focused on outcomes of and new techniques in robotic urologic surgery; his work has been presented at national and international meetings, including more than 100 presentations on robotic surgery in the past three years with awards from local, state and national urologic societies for his research. He is course director for the only national urology resident preceptorship in robotic urologic surgery held at OSU annually and is director of a robotic urologic surgery fellowship at OSU.
